Becca is a most beautiful child, the middle of three children. Once full of laughter and endless chatter, she now sits in silence most days. Once running like the wind with her long blond hair flying behind her, her legs are now still. The degree to which Becca can now comprehend her world around her varies depending on time spent with her and the amount of pleasure gleaned from her presence. Most people also see Becca – but don’t know her – never really grasp the human factor involved – they only see the inconvenience and feel pity for her and her parents. But oh, they have allowed themselves to be misled.

Born to loving but ordinary parents, Becca has changed the course of all the lives that circle around her. Whether the individuals of that circle knew her when she was full of energy and singing her ABC’s or praising “Baby Jesus” or whether they have become fortunate enough to know her now in her quiet, silent world, anyone of these individuals who knows the heart of God, can see Jesus in her eyes and experience healing of His love through her. They can bask in the Light as it shines through her. Understanding her needs and desires is not as easy as it used to be, but Becca’s patience and love to those of us who are handicapped in the worldly sense gently radiate from her.

Watching this special child of God in the throws of terrible uncontrollable seizures, which grasp her daily and have taken their toll on her body and mind, the circle knows that these brainstorms have not and will not take her soul. Becca’s innocence and inner strength is evident as she rises each morning with a smile and love in her deep blue eyes. Her parents don’t feel so ordinary any more. They feel blessed to have been chosen to care for Becca and become the recipient’s of such unconditional love.

Daily, Becca’s mother is retaining what lessons are to be learned when such a catastrophic illness strikes a loved one, especially a child. The degree of patience and spiritual strength needed to care for Becca is immense. Nevertheless, everything of importance or practiced on a regular basis changed when the Light came. Now, we are learning to allow God to work His plan in the midst of this awful tragedy. Each day adds another lesson learned. With a strong sense that God has entrusted Becca to her care, the mother counts her many blessings one by one and continues to invite others to stand in this extraordinary circle of light and love.
