Admission Requirements

Application Deadlines: March 1 for Fall Semester, October 1 for Spring Semester

Regular

  • Completed requirements for the Bachelor's degree in a college accredited by the appropriate accrediting association.
  • Completed a minimum of 18 semester hours of undergraduate studio arts courses and a minimum of 9 semester hours of art history.
  • A 2.5 (4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average or higher on all undergraduate work.
  • Prospective students are required to submit a creative portfolio for consideration by the admissions committee in the Art Department (i.e. slides or color reproductions, artist statement, letters of reference, etc.) to be sent with application materials.

Program of Study

A student admitted to the Master of Fine Arts degree will pursue either a two-dimensional or three-dimensional concentration. Upon the completion of 30 hours, the student must pass a review of their work. The committee reviewing the work will consist of the major professor and two other art faculty members. A grade of A or B is required in course work applied toward the degree.

Thesis Exhibition

The student will successfully complete an M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition. The Thesis is to include a major exhibition of studio work supported by a written paper that adheres to the College of Graduate Studies guidelines.
