Admission Requirements

Regular

  • Complete requirements for a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Possess or be eligible for a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in Special Education. Persons may be admitted into the program with Level Four Certification in a teaching field other than Special Education if prerequisite course work is completed.
  • Present a 2.50 or higher GPA on all undergraduate and graduate work.
  • Present a score of no less than 450 on the verbal subtest and a score of no less than 450 on either the quantitative or analytical subtest of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a score of no less than 44 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).

Provisional

All requirements must be met with the exception of test score criteria; present a score of no less than 400 on the verbal subtest and a score of no less than 400 on either the quantitative or analytical subtest of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a score of no less than 35 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). If GPA and/or test score criteria are not met, provisional admission may be granted through a program review process; additional materials must be submitted.


In addition to the above requirements, all new master's level students must schedule and meet with their assigned Special Education Advisor for a brief interview and orientation meeting prior to their first semester of course work in order to meet the registration requirements of the program.

SPED 6330 - Classroom Management (3)

*Prerequisite for M.Ed. in Special Education with a focus in Behavior Disorder and Interrelated certification only program

Specialized Area of Emphasis Courses 9-12 Hours

9-12 hours in courses specific to the certification area: Behavior Disorders, Learning Disabilities, or Mental Retardation (must have Advisor approval)

Electives 6 Hours

NOTE: Interrelated certification may be earned and/or endorsements may be added in Gifted Education and Preschool Handicapped through selected course work; however, program may exceed 36 semester hours.
