Admission Requirements

Regular

  • Complete requirements for a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Possess or be eligible for a Professional Level Five Certificate or equivalent in English Education.
  • Present a 3.25 or higher GPA on all graduate work attempted.
  • Present a score of no less than 450 on the verbal subtest and a score of no less than 450 on either the quantitative or analytical subtest of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a score of no less than 49 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).

Provisional

If GPA and/or test score criteria for regular admission in the Ed.S. program are not met, provisional admission into the Ed.S. program may be granted through program faculty review; submission of additional materials required.

EDUR 7130 - Educational Research (3)

Research Sequence Requirements 9 Hours

EDUR 8131 - Educational Statistics I (3)

EDUR 8434 - Field-based Educational Research (3)

SCED 8839 - Seminar and Field Study (3)

Specific Requirements 3 Hours

One Course from the Following:

MSED 8333* - Research in Language Arts (3) or SCED 8333* - Seminar in English Education (3)

*Prerequisite: A graduate course in teaching literature and the teaching of writing or approval of the Advisor. Taken prior to EDUR 8434 or concurrently.

Major Requirements 15 Hours

ENGL 6637 - Criticism and Theory (3)

12 Hours of graduate courses in Writing and Literature approved by the Advisor

Other Program Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Ed.S. Comprehensive Exit Assessment; involves constituting a three-faculty advisory committee to guide field study, and requires the completion and oral defense of a major field-based research paper.
